I am getting that feeling again, that “I might need another tattoo” feeling. This happens every so often, but recently I found myself perusing Pinterest, found some really beautiful cat tattoos, and thought “why don’t I have a cat tattoo yet?” I mean, I am a self professed crazy cat lady. Anyone who has ever spoken to me for more than 15 minutes knows that I am a devoted cat mother; heck at that point, I’ve probably already shown them pictures, but no cat tattoo. I have all sorts of flowers and butterflies, and I am starting to feel like a bit of a fraud. So I did what anyone my age would do and I started adding cat tattoos to my Pinterest list, because why take action when you can productively procrastinate?
In all honesty, I think the reason I don’t have my very own “cattoo” is that I haven’t found the right artwork yet. Some of my college ink is a little less spectacular than I’d like, and I have tried to be a bit more intentional with my selections in the last few years. I will say this particular round of research has pushed me a lot closer. I really like some of the pieces I’ve found that have incorporated floral elements to complement the main feline image. Flowers and cats – I’m sure none of you saw that one coming 😉
All images from here.
I’m a cat lover, and I’m friends with a lot of other cat lovers, and do you know what we enjoy getting? Cat stuff. Shocking, I know, but we really do. I can’t tell you have many people have given me ironic feline themed gifts hoping to illicit some sort of eye roll, but you know what? That stuff just makes me happy. T-shirts, pins, coffee mugs, stickers… bring. it. on.
- The Future Is Feline – Modcloth

- Fat Cat Statue – PhenomeGnome
- Cat Tote – Uncommon Goods

Now that being an unabashed fan of felines is downright trendy, there are hundreds of great gift ideas out there. If this list didn’t have anything that caught your fancy, just search “cat” on almost any website and you’ll likely to find something just right.
I am a crazy cat lady married to a crazy cat guy, and together, we are a crazy cat couple. We talk to our fur babies like they’re tiny bitchy fluffy humans. We tell them about our day, where we’re going, why they can’t do the thing, and how sorry we are that we cannot allow them to do the thing. Suffice to say, we are more than likely crazy reality TV gold. A symptom of this condition is that we are not only ridiculous about our cats, but about cats and cat stuff in general. I have two, that’s right, two tea towels with the phrase “Cat Hair – a condiment and an accessory.” Although in all fairness, I only purchased one of the two. I also have a tank top that barely covers my boobs, but proclaims me to be the world’s greatest cat mom, and I wear it proudly as I eat from my cat print bowl and sip tea from my “cat mom” mug. In spite of all of that, I still want to buy more cat themed products; nay, I need to buy more cat themed products. However else will the world know how devoted I am to my fluffy horde?
I’ve already daydreamed about picking up my keys from my cat bowl, throwing my cat tote over my arm, and heading to the farmers market in my cat tank to buy fresh produce to bake things I can take out of my oven with my cat oven mitt. I know, I dream big, right?
As a self proclaimed crazy cat lady, I will tell you right now there is never a time that I am not looking for a cat to snuggle. Most public places are woefully lacking in the respect, but I absolutely adore businesses that have resident fur babies. My reigning favorite being bookstores that have cats, although this is said without me having been to a cat cafe. I feel that when that happens we may have a new front runner. I was delighted to discover that not only was my enthusiasm for shop cats shared, but one photographer has actually channeled it into a coffee table book, Hong Kong Shop Cats.
You can order a copy of the book here, or check out the artist’s Instagram page. I’d love to do a similar project, perhaps something along the lines of “Shop Cats of the East Coast” -maybe take a few weeks off and set out on a road trip meeting and photographing as many fur babies as I can? I’m sure the people at my office would completely understand when I ask for the time off.
I am back in Tallahassee, and things are starting to settle back into the normal rhythm. I feel a tiny bit bratty for saying this, but is there anything worse than having to go back to work after an awesome vacation? Seriously, every move I make is punctuated by a mental “I don’t wanna!” I’ll have some trip photos for you guys later on this week, but today I wanted to share with you an article I found about a photo series by Magdalena Grześkowiak of her and her cat Kate throughout the seasons.
Her cat is much better behaved than mine are; most days, it’s like living with a herd of fluffy diva ninjas. I really do wish mine would agree to go on adventures with me. I had the best time seeing all of the different things she and Kate did together. If the glimpse above isn’t enough for you, you can see more of their adventures on their Instagram account.
