While some of you might be starting to look towards Fall, Summer is still alive and well here in the Sunshine State. We’ve got quite a lot of warm sunny days left to our year, and I am still feeling the summer vibes. Keeping that in mind, I’ve created a wishlist of items that I’d like to help me finish out the warmer weather.
- Lace Trapeze Dress – Free People
- Rose Gold Backpack – City Chic
- Elizabeth Climber Earring – Urban Outfitters
- Pineapple Sippers – Amazon
- Matilda Floral Kimono – Anthropologie
- Kake Flats – Kurt Geiger
- Haberkorn Sunglasses – Aldo
- Picnic Blanket – H&M
- Floral High-Waist Bikini – Torrid
I’ve been wearing a lot of loose breezy dresses to stay cool and billowy kimonos to keep the sun off my shoulders, and to be honest, I am always looking to expand my collection. After a recent trip to the beach, I’ve realized I really need to get a new swim suit. I want something that is me, but also a teeny tiny bit outside of my comfort zone, so I think a high-waist bikini might be a step in the right direction. Oh, and I thought those pineapple sippers were hella cute, and really, I just want them, summer seems a good a reason as any, right?
As you guys well know when it comes to fashion, I am usually of the “more is more” philosophy. Embroidery, sparkle, pattern – bring it on, but recently I discovered the brand ORTTU and I’ve found myself really admiring the simplicity of their designs. Now I will acknowledge what they lack in bells and whistles, they make up for in drape and additional fabric, but this more minimalist approach to dressing has really pulled me in.
I was showing Andy some of my favorite pieces, and he has dubbed the aesthetic “Star Wars Chic” – as in the garments look like something a really put together fashionable Jedi would wear. I think that’s probably the highest form of praise in the realm of the geekboy, right?
What do you think? I’m thinking of trying to integrate a piece or two into my normal rotation.
I wear a lot of black. It’s slimming, it’s difficult to stain, and it goes with pretty much everything. Over the past year or so I have pushed myself to incorporate more color in my day to day wardrobe, but for all the progress made, I am still very much a black shirt kind of girl. Now that the weather is getting a bit cooler, I am making the important transition from tank tops & spaghetti straps into something that can be layered or has a bit more fabric to it. Granted, not much, this is Florida after all, but just a smidgen. Embracing my curviness I have been focusing more on sites that are specifically for plus size women or women who straddle the line between standard and plus. Here are three of my top picks from three of the top stores I am considering purchasing my next few wardrobe additions from.
- Peacock Top – Elvi
- Black Lace Bow Top – Elvi
- Beaded Black Mesh Top – Elvi
- Mae Sweater – Universal Standard
- Marano Wrap Top – Universal Standard
- Cutaway Sleeve Tee – Universal Standard
- Off the Sholder Tie Strap Cardigan – Eloquii
- Draped Wrap Front Top – Eloquii
- Wrap Front Sweater – Eloquii
My absolute favorite is the one in the center. I look great in wrap tops, and the added drama of that long bow is fantastic. There are already so many items in my closet that I could wear it with. My anniversary and Christmas are right around the corner, so if I don’t pick it up for myself, there is the possibility that someone else might 😉
Sometimes fashion trends can make it really difficult to find clothing that fits well. The crop styles that have been the hotness for the last bit are driving me nuts. I am 5’10”, and curvy; these tiny babydoll dresses and short-waisted tops are leaving WAY more of me on display than I am comfortable with. The shirts I just won’t buy, but sometimes i’ll use the dresses as tunics and wear tights underneath them. Considering I only owned a single pair of tights until 2 months ago, it has been an interesting search. Since the tights are to help with a modesty issue, I usually go for ones that are completely opaque, but recently I’ve considered getting some quirky ones to wear when i’m not at the office. Something like these.
The perfect tights for a crazy cat lady right?
*Ladies, please remember that tights are not pants. If your butt is any where near the hem of your “dress”, do us all a favor and put on some pants. Even opaque tights are a little translucent, and your neon pink panties will show through.
I am kind of in love with the November Lookbook from Free People. The first skim went a little like this, “Want it, want it, need it, look at the beading!, want it…”, you get the idea. Andy just made non-committal noises and read his email. Some of the outfit combinations aren’t really my style, but I would really really like to own many of the individual pieces. My favorite is the skirt in the fourth photo (it also comes in olive green and black), closely followed by the dress in the fifth photo. Floaty layers and sparkles, go figure?
Now all I need is weather cool enough to necessitate layers, and one of those super cozy chunky knit sweaters.
