This has been a crazy week. With Irma bearing down on Florida this past weekend, Andy and I decided to pack up the cats and a few select belongings and caravan our two vehicles up to NC to stay with my mom. As you can imagine, gas was scarce, traffic was awful, and the journey took us several hours more than it should. Ultimately, we were really lucky and Irma veered off at the last moment, just brushing Tallahassee. Our neighborhood had some downed limbs, but according to my next door neighbor, the power never even went out. This was not the case for other parts of the city, but it did mean that Andy and I had a fully functioning home to come back to (after a horrible drive back) when my boss ordered every body back into the office by Wednesday morning. We’re very, very tired, but getting things back on track.

Many of my friends and family in the lower part of the state, however, are still without power and gas. It is heartbreaking because I know how miserable they are, but I can’t get to them without being stranded myself. Fortunately, rescue and power crews are working day and night to get things up and running as soon as humanly possible. A lot of them have been promised relief by the end of Saturday or Sunday. I can’t tell you how relieved I am that at the very least we’re all safe. And if praying is something your comfortable with, I’d really appreciate you sending up an extra one for all the people trying to put their world back together right now. Every little bit helps.

For all of you hard core Harry Potter fans out there, Pottery Barn Teen has released a collection inspired by the iconic series. They also have a few DIYs that’ll make your space that much more magic.

The world could use more of these Tiny, Weird & Brilliant ideas.

Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning your epic BBQ set up for next year.

I know the temperature has barely begun to drop (it’s been in the high 80’s here), but I am already dreaming about cozy fall dinner. Things like this Creamy Cauliflower & Leek Soup.

Flowers can do a lot to brighten up a space or elevate a table, but aside from cutting the stems and throwing them in a creative vase I find myself at a loss. That’s why I truly appreciate this tutorial for creating a sophisticated fall flower arrangement.

In the past I have been…well…a bit derisive when it comes to pre-fab homes, but this beautiful “surf shack” by Ikea has me changing my tune.

This “Young Wild & 3” Shibori inspired party has me wanting to do some serious DIYing.

These nightlights are whimsical as well as practical and I think I might need one for the back hallway or the guest bathroom. You know, for safety.

Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnddd the wait continues. As all of south Florida floods the interstate fleeing the hurricane, those of us in the panhandle are precariously perched waiting to see if we need to follow suit. I hate waiting, I am the worst at waiting, I mean, it’s dangerous to send the tracking code for a package because I will stalk that thing until the delivery guy rings the doorbell. This is so much more intense than that. Honestly, if it were just Andy and I, we’d probably already be gone, but the logistics of loading up 4 senior cats with various health issues and making the 8 hour drive to my mom’s… it’s daunting even with the best of conditions. We’re still doing every last thing we can to be extra prepared, but I am also looking at maybe hitting the craft store tonight and picking up some easy craft project supplies so I have something to keep me busy if we stay and end up loosing power. So if you guys wouldn’t mind taking a quick moment to send up a little prayer or some positive energy for me, I would greatly appreciate it. At this point, we Floridians need all the help we can get.

Really digging the soft coppery tones of this fall inspiration table. And that gold leaf garland! Am I right?

Once I know whether we’ll be losing power or not, I’ll be making a batch of these slice cookies to keep on hand for unexpected visitors.

This DIY door hanger is so cute I think I might whip a few up for Christmas gifts.

So might feel super sneaky, but your camo ninja skills are nothing compared to The Invisible Man.  Dude’s game is STRONG.

We all know how much it can suck to have to come up with something for dinner at the end of a long day. Here are some tips to help you eat at home while minimizing the end of the day stress.

If you have a puppy or a doggo, you need to have one of these. We all need to stay well hydrated when we’re out and about.

Even though I am in my thirties, I still have a deep love for YA novels. This list from Buzzfeed has added quite a few items to my “to read list”.

I am so happy this tiny trash panda found a loving home and will someday be released into the wild, but I am super jealous of the lady who got all those adorable baby bandit snuggles.

Happy long weekend, friends! As I write this, my holiday plans are still shifting and changing. We got a late night phone call from my in-laws saying that they might be dropping by the later part of the weekend, so until that is settled, we’re trying not to make any other firm plans. Either which way I am hoping to have at least one really decadent sleep in day and a lazy, lounge-y brunch at one of the local spots. That is one nice thing about living in a college town, give the students a three day weekend and the place clears out by 3pm on Thursday. There is also the possibility of taking advantage of the Labor Day sales. I mean, being fiscally responsible is great and all, but when you get that compound sales percentage, my inner shopaholic gets all verklempt and fluttery. Any time this happens Andy greets me at the door with “so how much money did you save me this time?” He’s a trooper that one 🙂

Let’s be honest, we all fart, daily, with varying degrees of stank. But what if there was a product that could suppress the stank? The women at LadyLike put fart-proof underwear to the test.

Friendships come in all shapes and sizes, but what do you do when one of your favorite people is leaving you emotionally drained constantly? Here is some good advice about how to maintain and maybe redirect the tone of your friendship.

Entertaining can be a lot of fun, and I am always on the lookout for tips and tricks. This book has been showing up on a few of the blogs I follow and I have to admit that I am intrigued.

Wanting to get the most out of your end of summer produce? Here is a site that will help you see what is in season in your area.

I am trying to make sure I get my fill of summer treats and beverages while I still can. This recipe for Peach Lemonade seems like it is right up my alley.

This peony wall is absolutely gorgeous; now I just need a half dozen friends to come over and help me make it.

Normally, I am not much on bright colors when it comes to my clothing choices, but I’ve been stalking this dress at Ann Taylor all summer and the Labor Day sale might just be the perfect time for me to bite the bullet.

As a designer, something I’ve always struggled with was the disparity between what I design and what I myself choose to wear. It’s nice to know that I am not the only creative that has this issue.

Hey guys…..it’s late, I really meant to get this post to you earlier today, but….stuff. I am having a weird day. I am pretty jazzed it’s Friday, but my excitement is tempered by the fact that it’s been a strange week. The eclipse was Monday and that was pretty cool, but honestly I don’t even remember Tuesday. Wednesday I dragged my hacking, wheezing tush to the doctor (it’s been two weeks of this BS, guys) and found out that I had bronchitis. Which is better than pneumonia, which they thought I might have but was disproved by the chest x-ray I had to get. On Thursday, Andy had his arm butchered by a trainee drawing his blood; they nicked a nerve, and now we get to wait to see if the loss of sensation is permanent or not. They better hope it isn’t, or dear lord, I will be bringing down a world of hurt of them, just saying. N,ow it’s Friday, and I’d like to go celebrate, but I’m tired so I am laying on the couch watching YouTube videos and thinking about how I need to finish this and get it posted before it actually becomes Saturday. I think I am just going to give up on today and hope that tomorrow is better. Night, guys!

These black diamond “stitch” earrings are delicate and speak directly to the part of me that fondly remembers many a night in college spent sewing until 2am.

Every once in a while I find myself lamenting the distance between myself and places like NY, if I were closer I could make a trip into the city to see wonderful installation like this one at the NCBG.

My kitchen is… well… a bit small, and I am always looking for ways to make the most out of the space. I think some of these DIY projects might be just what I need.

There are some weird people in this country, and sometime they make some weird things. Here are some bizarre landmarks in the good ole’ US of A.

While I went much more subtle with my wedding day make up, there is a part of me that would have been delighted to rock something colorful and shimmery like this.

Did you know Disneyland has a not-so-secret-these-days club?

We all know that heels take an outfit to the next level, but is it worth it in the long run?

This amazing Grilled Peach Avacado Caprese Salad is the perfect way to enjoy the last of the summer fruits and veggies before fall sets in.

As you read this, I am scurrying around somewhere in Chicago, most likely with a mildly exasperated Andy in tow. We are headed to Chi-town (Andy has begged me to not refer to it as such once we actually reach our destination) for my brother-in-law’s wedding. It will be my first visit and I have to tell you, this smallish-town Florida girl is very excited to see what she can see. I’ve done research and made lists, and while we will be spending the bulk of our trip with family and doing wedding, I have plans. Museum plans, park plans, bakery plans. I even have a mini list saved on the notepad in my smart phone just in case we find ourselves with some unexpected down time when we’re already out. Be sure to follow along on my Instagram; I will be doing my best to post photos of the shenanigans while they are happening.

While I am only using a hiking backpack for this trip, I hope to some day add a piece or two of this gorgeous floral luggage to my traveling arsenal.

This brush stroke decorating technique is super easy, not to mention pretty, and I am thinking that I need to make a fancy layer cake just so I can try it out.

Summer may be winding down, but I think there is still plenty of time to come up with a reason to recreate this ice cream bar. Sunday sundaes, anyone?

After mentioning my love of food laden boards last week, I found yet another “how to” to share with you.

Along with cat cafes, the UK also boasts something else that I feel like Americans need, The Prosecco Van. Wedding receptions would never be the same.

In addition to their traditional bath bombs, of which I am a HUGE fan, Lush has now started making jelly bath bombs, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I’ve been wearing flower crowns since I was in the single digits, mostly for fun, but it is interesting to note that flower crowns have historical significance and not just as a trendy accessory.

Sooooooo, the internet has made me aware of this jasmine mint toothpaste, and I kind of want to try it, but I can’t decide where I come down on the subject of trendy pretentious toothpaste….
