One of my all time favorite bath products is Philosophy Body Wash & Shampoo. The mouth watering scents and rich lather are only a tiny part of the appeal; I use this product probably 6 out of 7 days and my hair and skin look great! Also, I love using these all-in-one beauties for travel, I squeeze a little into a tiny travel container and I am spared the hotel shampoo and soap roulette game. Plus there are free recipes right on the front of the bottle!
Most of these are fragrances I have tried (I have the pumpkin spice muffin in my shower right now), the Cinnamon Hot Toddy and the Apple pie are the next two I plan to buy. If the idea of smelling like cake or pie all day doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry. The lovely rich shower smell leaves only the faintest hint of fragrance after you rinse off.
I love buying nail polish, which is a little strange considering due to the amount of typing, crafting and baking I can never keep a polish chip free for more than a day. My toes fare a little better, since I try to get at least one pedicure a month. As i’ve gotten older, I have become a bit of a polish snob, I am extremely picky about the brands i’ll use, and right now I am favoring Essie and OPI and since OPI makes an exclusive Sephora line I have been stocking up on the some of the more interesting shades. When the Garden of Good and Evil collection debuted I was a little torn. Most of the colors are not really what I normally wear, I lean more towards deep reds, violets, and almost blacks, but I was curious enough to give them a try.
To the amusement of the ladies working at my local Sephora, I used the testers to give my self a rainbow manicure and then decided what colors I wanted to invest in. I had pictures, but my nails were in really poor shape by the time I had my camera back in hand.
Finally, after much debate and inner turmoil (I kid you not) I ended up with the sample pack and a regular size of the Designer Fig Leaf, so here is my review:
Designer Fig Leaf: An opaque metallic olive green, probably my favorite of the bunch. I would recommend a minimum of two coats for nails Poison Ivy would be proud of.
Completely Fern-ished: A matte olive green that is exclusive to the sample pack, while I like it, it sort of looks like the other green’s ugly sister by comparison.
Eve-y On the Eyes: A really lovely cool shimmery fuchsia, something that would be great on any skin tone.
Tempted by Teal: A bright iridescent teal that shifts gold and silverish, almost exactly like Mermaid to Order, which is one of my favorite summer shades, but a little less opalescent.
Frankly I Don’t Give A-Dam: A matte light grey that was surprisingly feminine, I will be picking up the full size on my next shopping trip.
Overall I really think this collection has something for everyone, and the sample pack is a great way to try some colors that you may not usually wear. It’s definitely inspired me to branch out from my red-purple safety net, and i’ve received lots of complements on my new green nails.
One of the blogs I like to start my day with is I go by Katie written by Katie Kukulka. I really enjoy her short, photo based posts, that are a informative about everything from living as organically as possible and collection antiques, to book reviews and easy recipes.
One of the things that keep popping up in her posts is a nail polish brand called Scotch. This polish has an incredible resume, it claims to be Vegan, Cruelty-free, Gluten-free, Fragrance-free, Toxin Free, Paraben Free, Hypoallergenic & Biodegradable. While I didn’t know that some of those terms needed to be applied to a nail polish, it made me feel more altruistic just reading the brand information. I haven’t had the privilege of testing out the products myself, but a selection of the colors have made their way onto my “to buy” short list.
Katie’s three color review:
NEAT – a sheer pink when applied once gives your nails a pretty & refined translucent pink hue. If you apply it multiple times it can become opaque but you risk brushstroke lines if you don’t let it dry between layers.
KILTLIFTER – a bright pinkish, magenta red that goes on opaque with one coat. My new all time favorite for toes 🙂
HEATHER BLUSH – (not pictured above) a grayish taupe brown that went on very sheer though with my skin tone made my finger nails look bruised. If you have an olive or tan skin tone this polish could look lovely & natural.
*I know the $14.99 price tag might make some shy away from trying this product, but remember, every little step we can take towards a healthier lifestyle makes a difference.

Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands of makeup. They have everything from bright colors with glitter to subtle sexy nudes with just a hint of shimmer. My absolute favorite product is the 24-7 Eyeliner. As it’s name would suggest this is the longest lasting liner I have ever encountered. It even made it through my car accident last year that resulted in an afternoon of sobbing, I was okay but my car was totaled, and about 2 boxes of tissues. My eyes may have been red and puffy, but they were still perfectly lined.
Currently I am lusting after the Naked pallette, this collections of soft shimmerly neutrals are perfect for the office AND for an evening out, low key but still so sexy!
Conversely, my inner five year old has been throwing fits to try the Heavy Metal Glitter Liner, I can’t think of anything more fun than bold bright colors and lots of glitter.
Right now Urban Decay is having their Friends and Family Sale, and if you enter the code FFSUMMER11 you will receive 25% off your purchase (some exceptions apply). Do yourself a huge favor and check out some of their great products, you might find your new “must have”. And with 25% off it’s the perfect time to try something new. Enjoy!
