It was a bitter sweet weekend. There was quite a bit of outing and abouting, but it was all tainted by the fact that my mom was heading back to NC on Monday. Friday night my mom and I ran some errands, grabbed ice cream, and wandered around a used book store I discovered a few weeks ago. I had no intention of buying anything, but I’d picked up two books within five minutes of entering the shop. Poor Oliver was greatly disturbed by the fact that we spent the bulk of our weekend hours away from the house. Even worse when we were home we were working on other things and not giving him the attention he feels he so rightly deserves. The picture above pretty much sums it up. Andy trying to get some work done on his laptop, Oliver in his lap, but with sad face because he wants the whole lap and mean daddy won’t put the evil laptop away. My mom just HAD to get the pumpkin spice pancakes when we went out for breakfast. Not only were the pancakes pumpkin spice flavor, the whipped cream was as well, and the plate was sprinkled with Pumpkin Spice Oreos and garnished with a candy corn pumpkin. I got queasy just looking at the plate. She was a happy camper though. We managed to squeeze in a decent amount of cooking/baking in between trips and errands. There was slow cooker apple butter, apple plum cake, toffee chip brownies, and homemade bread. We also broke my apple peeler/slicer so I’ll be doing things the old fashioned way until I get it replaced. Our biggest event this weekend was going to the Corn Maze at Aunt Louise’s Farm (full post on that later). It was a first for my mother and myself, and we had an absolute blast. There was also a giant corn pit, plenty of farm animals, homemade jams and jellies for sale and cornbread waffles which were pretty great.
All and all it was a really good weekend. We are all a little worn out, but we regret nothing 🙂
