Hi guys….I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately. You see, my mom is here, and we’ve been hanging out, and running all over town, and I have been letting a lot of my normal routine slide. It’s a good thing my acupuncturist is out of town, because if she knew how I’d been eating… yeah, you don’t piss off the lady who stabs you with needles, especially when she may or may not be a wizard. Just saying. But here is some of what we’ve been up to.
After picking my mom up from St. Mary’s, we stopped by the St. Johns Town Center to grab lunch and stretch our legs. My mom got to go to Lush for the first time, and after our brisk, brutally hot walk back to the parking lot, we decided to take a quick run through the little pond area where they’d set up misting fans before getting back on the road. We had to take turns so one of us could keep the phones well away from the water.
We took my mom out for her birthday dinner, but I wanted to make sure she still had a designated birthday “cake”. I went with a devils food cake with whipped chocolate ganache and a sweet dark cherry filling. And because it was for my mom, I decided to try my hand at making some chocolate flourishes to fancy up the outside of the cake. I don’t think I’ll be winning any pastry contests any time soon, but not bad for my first attempt.

We took my mom to the local soda fountain so she could enjoy the old fashioned treats and check out the cool toy shop that shares the space. Not wanting to miss out on any potential chocolate awesomeness, she opted for the nano cone taster trio. I was really excited to discover that they not only had 4 vegan ice cream flavors, they also had vegan hot fudge. Best. Ice cream. EVER!
There once was a giant burger on that plate…I don’t know where she puts it, but my mom has got a healthy appetite for such a tiny lady.
On her actual birthday, I took the day off from the office, and my mom and I donned our flower crowns and spent the day out gallivanting. I introduced her to my new favorite breakfast spot.
And birthday week ended the way it started with cake, except this time we cheated and picked up a four pack from one of the local shops.
Luckily, my mom didn’t have to head home right after birthday week. We still have another week to hang out and have fun. What have you been up to lately?
