Lately, I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses. They’re easy to throw on, comfortable, and, in general, tend to look as if you’ve “tried” harder than, say, a tank top and some yoga pants. This weekend I received an email from Free People highlighting some of their lovely summer dresses, and you know what? I need more dresses.
Being a chubby girl, I have been conditioned to not consider mid-drift baring options, but this lovely blue number is so cute I say “damn societal expectations!” The sweet little side buttons make it even more perfect.
THIS DRESS! So bright, so patterned, so floaty! And a wonderful reason to invest in a pair of gold sandals
Uh oh, more buttons! Plus, being black, you don’t have to worry about sweat showing.
It’s so hard being fiscally responsible, when there are so many gorgeous options. What is your favorite warm weather clothing item?

Even though this trip was slated as a Universal/Islands of Adventure vacation, we still managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Disney Springs after checking into our hotel on Thursday evening. In the last few years, Disney Springs has undergone a huge transformation, leaving only the vaguest traces of its less glamorous former self aka Downtown Disney. I’ve had the opportunity to visit a few times in the last two years, and it just keeps getting better. One of the newest additions to the Disney Co Op stores is a charming little vintage inspired boutique called The Dress Shop on Cherry Tree Lane. I had seen a few articles about its opening, and blogger Penny of The Sconnie Sling lamented the fact that it opened mere days after she left Orlando. It was at the top of my hit list for our very brief visit.
My husband was so lucky we weren’t Magic Kingdom bound on this particular trip. Otherwise, there would have been a serious dent put in our credit card. This place is the most fun a grown up Disney princess wanna-be can have since we aren’t eligible to be styled at the Bippity Boppity Boutique (yes, I checked). This fascinator was my absolute favorite thing in the shop (closely followed by the white rabbit bag with fluffy tail), and, were it not for my unfortunately fine tresses, it would have been mine. My degree is in apparel design, and I thought it was a nice touch to have pieces of the inspiration boards for each “collection” framed for everyone to see. Also, as you can see to the right of the “Minnie” dress, the shop also carries crinolines for anyone who wants to amp up their look just a bit more.
The other thing that I LOVED, that’s right all caps, LOVED was that all the dresses I saw had sizes that accommodated more full figured ladies like yours truly. I am about a 16/18, and I saw options that would easily work for ladies who need 22/24. Trust me, there is nothing worse than wanting in on the game of dress up only to be told you can’t play because you’re not a standard size. On my next Disney vacation, you better believe I will be hitting up this spot for a park perfect ensemble.
This time of year I usually find myself struggling a bit. The stress level at the office is through the roof, and it’s hard to leave it at the door when I go home at the end of the day. I start to feel boxed in and anxious, wondering “Is this really my life!?” I decided long ago that building a life here with Andy was my top priority, and I would take whatever job best met our needs, but when things build up like this, I can feel these whips of agitation winding tighter and tighter around me. Angry clients, missing envelopes, irritable coworkers, cranky bosses, band after band tightening around me until all I want to do is sit in the dark and mindlessly binge watch TV for a few hours before I can reasonably go to bed. In an effort to keep the crazy at bay, I’ve been trying to give myself tiny breaks throughout the day. Read an article, scroll through Instagram, click around Pinterest, just a few moments to disconnect and regroup. The jury is still out on whether this is helping or not, but I did come across something really beautiful on Green Wedding Shoes. A literal Flower Dress.
In some of these images, it looks like she grew from the clover patch she’s standing in. It’s like finding a living breathing fairy tale. This world may be deadlines and endless columns of numbers, but there is also beauty and things that make magic seem real; maybe that is what I should be focusing on instead, huh?

We are quickly moving towards the more glamorous part of the holiday season. Halloween is fun, Thanksgiving is comfy casual, but Christmas & New Years? Those holiday parties usually require a little something special. Now these Party Dresses by Free People may not be the most budget friendly option, but you definitely won’t have to worry about showing up in the same dress as someone else. Glitzy, Glamorous and Gorgeous.
Serious eye candy, but I will most likely be adding something like this to my closet about the same time as start making enough to allow Andy to be a house husband. He has already promised that if I figure out how to make him a “kept man” he’ll cook, clean and work out until he gets ripped like Hugh Jackson was in the Xmen movies. A girl’s gotta dream big right?
Tis the season for holiday parties, work parties, family parties, friend parties…you get the idea. With Christmas only a little over a week away, shopping days are dwindling and calendars are filling up. Here are some of my favorite short parties dresses that will give you that little boost of “I look amazing” you need to have a truly awesome time.
Cute right? If you can’t tell I am a big fan of brocade and sparkle this season.
