Tag Archives: Tea Party
I love a good tea party. My mom and I used to have them when I was younger, and I try to go to at least one “fancy” high tea a year. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of the dressing up and nibbling tiny sammies and pastries with my pinky artfully in the air. Okay, the pinky thing isn’t true, but the rest is, so you can imagine how delighted I was when ladies over at Sugar & Cloth threw a gorgeous Tea Party for BHLDN. I love Sugar & Cloth, I love tea parties, and I LOVE BHLDN. What more could a girl want?
So many gorgeous details, and I love that they put a modern spin on a delightful older tradition. It can be difficult to find that perfect balance between old and new. So, who wants to go for tea this weekend?

There are a lot of places I want to visit; place in the US, the Mediterranean, Asia, pretty much everywhere. There is even an unofficial list somewhere in my office. One of the places I’d like to go in the US is San Fransisco. Street cars, the bay, the house where charmed was filmed…As if I needed any more incentive, the food blog Honestly YUM did a recent post about the tea room Crown & Crumpet.
Tea cup clock, fancy sugar cubes and fancy baked goods?! Done. Added to the list.

I was flipping through my wedding blog “favorites” this morning at it occurred to me that in a matter of days I really won’t have a reason to read them anymore. The wedding will be over, and I won’t need to know about fun new dress styles, place settings, gift bags or floral arrangements. Then I started bargaining with the practical voice in my head, reasoning that those things don’t really have to be wedding specific, there could be…say, a birthday or a Mother’s Day tea or something that I may need fresh ideas for. For example, this fall photo shoot would be one fantastic, somewhat odd tea party. The antlers and empty turtle shell probably wouldn’t make it to the final application of the concept, but still, the potential is there.
And besides, a few years from now Andy and I will probably have children; and if a little girl happens to be part of the mix, I have to make sure she has the best play group/birthday party on the block. I learned from the best. My mom and I used to have tea every Saturday morning and I felt so grown up in my princess pj’s carefully spooning sugar and pouring creamer into the delicate “big girl” cups.

Cooler weather, while it hasn’t really reached Florida yet, I hear from my friends up north that it is indeed on it’s way. The only part of summer that I really like is the last couple of weeks before fall takes hold. After the mid day heat wave, the temperature dips and the early evening and twilight hours are actually bearable. It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy the last of the summer produce and have a picnic or barbecue with friends.
My junior year of college, my friends and I threw together an end of summer picnic. We grilled kabobs, made potato salad and ate entirely way to much watermelon. It’s one of my favorite college memories, us all sitting by the pool as the sunset, dipping our toes in the water and just basking in the cool breeze that blew through the pine trees. I remember feeling so relaxed and content.
And now I am craving iced tea and a gentle breeze.

Normally i’m not really interested in reviewing a designer’s collection. I feel bad picking apart someone’s vision, especially since I wouldn’t really want it done to me. But occasionally there is something so amazing, so fabulous it make me squeal on the inside and I just have to show other people. The long dresses that floated down the runway of the Valentino 2012 Resort collection being one of them.
Pastels , flowers and beading oh my! While I was looking at the collection, my inner monologue went something like this, “I want that! No, wait I want that. Look look, BEADS!” Needless to say I A) wish I had the funds to afford one of these beautiful dresses, B) wish I could actually fit into one of these dresses, and C) wish that adult women could have Mad Hatter style tea parties and wear dresses like this on a regular basis.
