Weekend Recap

This weekend recap is coming to you day later than I intended, but in my defense, this is my mom’s last week in town, and we are trying to fit in a lot in our last few days together. Our weekend kicked off with trip to Thomasville, GA. My mom, my friend Lexie, and I decided we needed to start our Saturday with brunch at Liam’s, one of my mother’s and my all time favorite brunch spots. Their menu is locally inspired and constantly changing, and even after all this time, it never disappoints.

w2 w1My mom is a huge fan of their famous house coffee beverage, the “Rude Awakening”: three shots of espresso, two tablespoons of sugar, and quite a bit of deliciously steamed milk. As you can see, it makes her very happy ūüôāw3¬†I also got to try Masa pancakes, which was a first for me, and I have to say it was pretty great. I could absolutely see myself whipping these up at home, maybe with a little home made honey butter.w12From there, we walked around downtown for a bit. We visited our favorite shops, enjoyed the Autumn decor, and tried to pretend that it wasn’t still crazy hot outside. Some day I will live in a place that isn’t 90 degrees in the “Fall”. w4 w11¬†How great is this ceiling?! I would love to have something like this in my house someday. Perhaps when I make a lot more money and have purchased that townhouse in Savannah I’ve been dreaming of?w10 w5 w6¬†We grabbed some Italian sodas for the drive home; I went with Blackberry and my friend Lexie opted for a Caramel Cream soda that she called “life changing”.w7 w8¬†Yeah, we worked in brunch on Sunday, too. This time at Kool Beanz here in Tallahassee.¬†It was awesome, and I regret nothing.¬†w9How was your weekend?

Weekend Recap

Well, it was quite a busy weekend. My friend Stefanie was in town, and since she needed to promote her kids yoga teacher training coming up (you can register here *wink wink*), we decided to hit up some of the different Saturday morning markets that take place in town every weekend.

w9 w8 w12Amidst all my friend-supporting, I discovered this delightful stall: 221B Baker’s Treat. Their mystery-themed goods include Sherlock Scones, Dr. Watson’s Brownies, and Ms. Hudson’s Cookies. Even better, they have both vegan and gluten free treats. We chatted up the baker and her husband and discovered that along with themed offerings, the baked goods use locally sourced ingredients, and the flavors are dictated by seasonal offerings. ¬†I am planning on dragging Andy back to stock up on more scones the next chance I get.w11 w10 w7¬†After the downtown market, we hit the Market Square farmers market; it’s much smaller so it was more of an in and out kind of thing. Probably not a bad thing, considering I noticed some flowering plants that would look great in my front yard…w6 w5¬†We took a break and grabbed brunch at Sweet Pea Cafe. So much amazing vegan food, so little time. They even had the Green Tea Sugar cookies that I love; I bought two to take home for later. It was so good we even went back on Sunday before she had to head home.w4 w2 w3¬†We did another round of flyer hand-outs around Lake Ella and then met up with our friend Lexy, grabbed ice cream, and spent the next couple of hours catching up and thoroughly enjoying our girl time. Unfortunately the sundae below was not mine, mine was considerably less picturesque, but equally delicious.¬†w1 w14 w13Sunday was mostly dedicated to Andy and I running errands, but we did manage to grab brunch (at the aforementioned Sweet Pea Cafe) with Stefanie and my adorable corgi niece Ruby. She loves me quite a bit, but the last time she was in town Andy gave her ear scratches and brushed her for THREE HOURS while we watched movies. Needless to say, I have been replaced as her favorite human who isn’t her mom ūüôā

Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a wonderful three day weekend. I am back in Tally, and aside from being a little travel weary, I’m still jazzed from this weekend. Aside from the standard girls weekend shenanigans, I made it to Palm Harbor in time to participate in the grand opening of the children’s learning center Stefanie is working at. I got to see her do a quick kid’s yoga demo and see the owner award¬†her with her¬†very own set of keys. It was really cool to be there for what is a huge new life step for her. Here are some more of the weekend antics.

1 –¬† We spent a ridiculous amount of time in Earth Bound, and while¬†we were restrained in our actual purchases, I think we each mentally spent about $500. So many amazing things I’d love to have for my home, office and closet.

2 – I had one of the most incredible meals I’ve¬†had in a very long time at one of Stefanie’s favorite restaurants:¬†Consciousness Blossoms. Bonus, everything was vegan or vegetarian, so I could order ANYTHING I wanted off the menu without having to check ingredients. Heaven!

3&4 – While I absolutely missed my fur babies, Ruby and Gus made sure I didn’t go without snuggle. At one point,I had them on either side of me, both demanding tummy scratches; it’s a good thing I have two¬†hands.

5 – With the aid of a few Pinterest recipes, we concocted some amazingly delicious vegan peanut butter cookies. It made a couple of dozen, so there were more than enough for me to take home to share with Andy. He liked them, too ūüôā

6 РAfter cookies, we decided that it was time for facials and YouTube videos. I introduced her to the BuzzFeed Try Guys and My Drunk Kitchen.

7 РSunday, I got up early-ish and grabbed breakfast with my dad at First Watch (another amazing restaurant). We hung out for an hour before he had to head into work, which was a nice added bonus to my impromptu weekend trip.

8 –¬†¬†Both Andy and the kitties were very happy to see me when I got home; I think at one point I had four of the cats trying to sit in my lap, and¬†Oliver insisted on sleeping in my arms while I read before bed.

So there you have it, a pretty awesome weekend. How did you spend your Labor Day?

Weekend Recap

It rained this weekend, a lot. A lot, a lot, but I didn’t let that stop me! Here are some highlights.

Since the birthday girl was sick last weekend, Jenn and I had our girls’ day out this past weekend. We kicked things off the way we normally do with brunch. However, instead of our regular Tallahassee haunt, we drove a little across the state line to Liam’s in Thomasville, GA.

We kicked off birthday brunch with an order of fried peach fritters and steamy mugs of tea. Then, we got down to the important stuff. In my case, that meant the incredible Brioche¬†French Toast, and Jenn went for their Smoked Salmon BLT. We weren’t quite waddling when we left, but we were close.

Next, we hit some of our favorite downtown shops; I ended up taking way to many pictures in Firefly, but I love that store like, whoa, big time. The place is filled to the ceiling with beautiful home goods and quirky jewelry. They also do amazing gift wrapping, and I have on more than one occasion had them wrap whatever trinket I picked up, even if it’s just for me.

After that, we spent some time in The Bookshelf. Not only do they have a really great selection of books, they sell paper goods and book related accessories. I have one of their tshirts that reads “I like big books and I cannot lie.”

The best part of this store is, without a doubt, their children’s section. They have play areas, and I always spend about half an hour reading the featured titles. I fell completely in love with the book This is Sadie;¬†if I ever have kids, I hope they have half her imagination. I may actually go back and buy it for myself. The illustrations are beautiful, and the reminder that things can be more than what they seem is something I think every adult needs to remind themselves of every now and again.

Weekend Recap

It was one of those crazy weekends that are ridiculous amounts of fun, but over before you can blink. Georgia, North Carolina and then back to Florida, the poor husband is so tired that he had to take an extra day off before heading back to the office. Here are some highlights:

Week 4 Week 6
Week 5 Week 8
Week 1 Week 2
Week 9 Week 3

1 РOliver went into full on toddler pout mode when he saw us packing our bags. Also, he is not allowed on the table, but he thinks that being in something on table makes it okay.

2 РSince the all ladies were going to be at the sprinkle for the better part of the afternoon, Andy decided to take a mini day trip to Greensboro and have lunch with his mom and dad. This is him killing time until he could start his drive.

3 – Lucy is one of these sweetest little puppies¬†I’ve ever met. I¬†gave her ear and tummy scratches, and she said we could be besties.

4 – My friend’s daughter Abigail gets cuter ever time I see her. We colored, we played with Ms. Potato Head, and I showed her how to take pictures of Mommy with my phone; super fun big girl stuff. I wish I could steal her.

5 РThe adorable duckie cupcakes from Gigis were the perfect sprinkle center piece, and they were made for people who like a little cupcake with their frosting.

6¬†–¬†¬†Veggie hash and poached eggs, perfect cheat day breakfast.

7 – Ladies who brunch,.

8 – My first ever trip to Lush, so many beautiful smells and colors. A little overwhelming, but I found some great things that I’ll share with you guys later.
